To figure out how much compost you will need before laying sod, you will need to measure the length and width of your space. The height will be 1 inch (or .0833 feet) because that is how much compost you want on top. Once you have your measurements, click here for a cubic foot calculator. 

When you enter your measurements into this calculator, it will tell you the cubic footage (ft3) and also the amount in yards (yd3) needed. Our compost is $45 per yard.

200 square feet

200 x .0833 = 16.66 cubic feet

  • There are 27 cubic feet in a yard.

  • 16.666 ÷ 27 = 

.61 yards needed

500 square feet

500 x .0833 = 41.65 cubic feet

  • There are 27 cubic feet in a yard.

  • 41.65 ÷ 27 = 

1.54 yards needed

1,000 square feet

1,000 x .0833 = 83.3 cubic feet

  • There are 27 cubic feet in a yard.

  • 83.3 ÷ 27 = 

3.09 yards needed
